Soft Scrub Total

The fine folks from Purex and Soft Scrub sent me the following cleaners to test:

Soft Scrub Total - Bath and Bowl

"Replace your arsenal of cleaning products with Soft Scrub® Total™ Bath & Bowl Cleaner, the one product that is powerful enough to clean and deodorize your entire bathroom. The patented trigger allows you to easily switch from a fine mist to a thick foam and even sprays upside down. The unique angle-neck bottle helps you get into those hard to reach places like the inside of the toilet bowl."

Soft Scrub Total - All Purpose w/Bleach

"Replace your arsenal of cleaning products with Soft Scrub® Total™ All Purpose Cleaner with Bleach, the one product that is powerful enough to clean your entire home. The patented trigger allows you to easily switch from a fine mist to a thick foam and even sprays upside down. The unique angle-neck bottle helps you get into those hard to reach places like the inside of the microwave."

The cool thing about these cleaners is that they can spray upside-down, even under the rim of a toilet bowl; that really comes in handy. They do a great job of cleaning, and they have a better, less intense and chemical scent than some other products I've tried. I call them worth checking out.

One of you can try them for FREE!! Email me a photo of your worst mess, and one of you will get coupons for a FREE bottle. I'll post the winner in a few days.

While you're waiting, you can enter the Soft Scrub Tough & Gentle Sweepstakes; there is a $1,000 grand prize and fifty 2nd place winners will each receive $40 in gift cards.

Combat Source Kill Max

The fine folks at Purex and Combat sent me the following items:

"Combat Source Kill Max Ant Bait contains a powerful insecticide, Fipronil, which kills most ants commonly found in households. Ants are attracted to the bait and then carry it back to their colony to destroy the queen and entire colony. These easy-to-use, no-mess, child-resistant ant baits need no activation. Just place them where you have seen ants and they will work day and night to control the problem killing ants at the source.

Combat® Source Kill Max Ant Bait kills ants that feed on sweet and greasy materials, including: Argentine, Cornfield, Little Black, Odorous House, and Pavement Ants."

"Combat Source Kill Max Ant Killing Gel gets your ant problem under control in just three to five days. It’s formulated to attract ants quickly, while its fast-acting insecticide, Fipronil, starts killing in hours. Worker ants return to the colony and feed the bait to the larvae and to the queen, eliminating the entire ant colony. This gel is easy to use so you can apply it in cracks, crevices and other hard-to-reach places.

Combat® Source Kill Max Ant Killing Gel is effective against Carpenter, Pharaoh, Argentine, Cornfield, Odorous House, Thief, Pavement, White Footed, and Little Black Ants."

I've tested then out on our annual summer ant parade, and they have put a big dent in the local ant population; it's nothing like the swarms we had before we deployed the Combat. If you have an ant problem too, you should give it a shot... and one of you can do it for FREE. Send me a email telling me how big your ant problem is, and I'll pick a random person by the end of the weekend to get a free kit from Combat.

In the meantime, Combat has a contest going where you can win $1000; you can go here to sign up:

Ecover Pomegranate and Lime Dish Liquid

The fine folks at Ecover

www.ecover.com

and Naturally Savvy

http://www.naturallysavvy.com/

sent me a FREE bottle of Ecover Pomegranate and Lime Dish Liquid to test. Here's what they say about it:

http://www.ecover.com/US/EN/Products/automatic-dishwasher-liquid-pomegranate.html

I've used it for about a month now, and here's what I think:

If you try to include natural products in your cleaning routine, you understand that there's a tradeoff; you're helping protect the environment, something near and dear to all of our hearts, but the natural products don't work as well.

The Ecover Pomegranate and Lime Dish Liquid is no exception. It smells REALLY good, far better than the chemical/floral scents of many traditional brands, and with none of the eye- and nose-burning effect that sometimes occurs; that's certainly a plus. And it does clean dishes, but not as well as the chemical brands. It does not foam anywhere near as well, and the foam does not last anywhere hear as long. It will clean lightly soiled plates well enough, but anything stuck on or old will require significantly more time and effort... or a chemical cleaner. Again, ALL the natural dishwashing liquids that I've tried suffer from these issues; it's not an Ecover thing, it's just that Mother Nature didn't plan on cleaning off crusted-on food.

If you're going to buy natural, I can wholeheartedly recommend the Ecover Pomegranate and Lime Dish Liquid; it cleans as well as any of the natural brands and the smell is top-notch. Otherwise... it can't hurt to give it a try, because for many of your dishes you'll get perfectly acceptable cleaning, and even saving the planet PART of the time is better than not saving it at all. :-)
